Respite care

At Aspen Belmont, we can provide respite care. This provision may be on a short or longterm basis. Respite service is available on every day of the year, offering a service varying from one hour to a number of weeks rather than months. It is provided by trained and experienced staff and is allocated according to individual need. Respite provides a break for carers and for individuals with disabilities from their usual routines in order to improve the quality of their lives and support their relationship.

Many services are available to service users including:

  • Introduction to respite (person-centred induction)
  • overnight stays
  • weekend respite breaks
  • emergency provision
  • culturally sensitive food
  • recreation, social and leisure activities
  • supported independence skills
  • support for religious preferences
  • celebrating festivals
  • personal care daytime support
  • free access to a telephone to keep in touch with home
  • support to access day care
  • laundering of all service users’ clothes
  • single bedrooms (in most cases)
  • adaptations for daily living
  • Emergency bed facility.

Early intervention and regular breaks help to keep families together and sustain carer in their long term caring role. Without this care, many people would be at risk, their quality of life would be poor and they may require admission to permanent care.

Aspen Belmont will ensure that during the admission process, service users are asked about any social activities, hobbies or leisure activities they would like to engage in whilst living at the home. These activities will also be identified within the appropriate personal planning processes.
